We are thrilled to welcome Patrick Parris onboard as the new Theocracy bass player! Patrick is a great bassist, a natural musician and a great showman. He cut his teeth in the live arena as frontman for local band Eclipsed by Sanity, so he has a great stage presence and a powerful voice, and I'm looking forward to hearing him nail those high harmonies in our live shows.
Patrick also brings a strong commitment and dedication to the band and to touring, which is very important to me, especially in light of current label discussions and with the new album nearing completion. This will be the first time that we have four guys totally on the same page and willing
to put the necessary work in to help us continue moving forward, and I am VERY excited to see what the future holds for this band now. Thank you all for the prayers, support and encouragement as always. Sincerely, Matt!

Theocracy is now confirmed to headline the SoWeGa Metalfest per the following announcement made at the festival's official blog:
"Theocracy will be the second headliner of SoWeGa Metalfest. They will play at 10pm on August 4th, 2007. I was lucky enough to go to ProgPower USA in 2006. It's a great festival and many great bands played. The band to open this festival was Theocracy and they amazing! Due to the nature of PPUSA I had no idea this band was from the United States. I was also amazed when I found out they are a Christian band. This band is, without a doubt, the best Christian metal band I've ever heard.
Theocracy hails from Athens, GA. They were one of my main picks for SoWeGa Metalfest. Their music covers many grounds. It is very epic, power, progressive, and thrash influenced. Under Matt Smith's genius Theocracy has grown very successful with the self-titled album. Two new albums are in the works and they are going to be killer.
Matt's response to playing Metalfest was very sincere. He's a great guy. Theocracy is a great band. Working with them has been a blast. You'll even be hearing an exclusive new Theocracy track on the delayed SoWeGa Metal CD Set.
Theocracy definitely keeps metal real. Power metal has finally recently started turning heads here in the USA again for the first time since the 80s with bands like Helloween. With more power oriented bands on the rise (I.E. Cellador, Dragonforce, and Into Eternity) the time for Theocracy in Albany is definitely now! Theocracy teamed with Aghora as SoWeGa Metalfest headliners will make this an unforgettable night for anyone who likes real metal."

Hi Guys--
Man, it sure is cool to finally hear these albums kind of coming together! In one sense, it would have been awesome to release one big monster double album, but the only real advantage to that is the fact that it's cool from an artistic standpoint. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense--you run the risk of bombarding people with too much material and having some stuff fall through the cracks. I like my idea of releasing them a year apart, and I hope that's the way it ends up happening. Besides, each of the albums has sort of a distinct personality in my mind, so they work well as separate entities. This is a generalization, but it kinda seems to me that the second album has certain songs that represent everything Theocracy is, and then other songs that show different sides of us (this one is more aggressive, this one is more acoustic-based, etc.). The third album seems to have more songs that are kinda to-the-point, concise representations of what we do. To put it another way, I'd have a hard time picking a single from the new album because a lot of the songs lean in one direction or another, but I can think of 3 or 4 songs from the third album that would make great singles. Don't let that scare you; I don't at all mean that there's a bunch of stuff out of left field on album 2 or that album 3 is full of 3-minute radio songs, because that's not even remotely true. Every moment sounds like Theocracy, and nothing is forced or contrived. I'm just trying to tell kind of how it looks (in a very over-generalized way) from my perspective.
I think a lot of people probably think the album's taking so long because I'm some weird perfectionist recluse who can never be satisfied, but it's really just been the huge learning curve. To go from never having recorded a live drum kit a couple of years ago to getting the drum sounds we got on this album...well, it's nothing short of a miracle. That, plus all the very intensive editing that goes on on an album like this, added up to about 5 or 6 years of experience that I had to cram into 2 years, all while writing the songs and working a full-time job. There was no shortcut, just very, very hard work and endless hours learning and
experimenting. So 75% of the reason it's taken so long has just been the learning curve. I'm so happy to report that that part of it is finally over, and it came out great! There's still a lot of work to do, but from here on out, it's all stuff I've done before, so I can just knock this thing out (Lord-willing)! No more learning curve...now it's finally just "get the job done," and that makes me VERY happy. :)
And we've got the official Theocracy myspace up and running with some new music for you guys to check out as well. God bless and thanks for your patience!! -Matt

Hi everyone, and welcome to the official Theocracy website! Hopefully you will be able to find out a little more about the band and their music while you're here.
Theocracy hails from Athens, GA, and their critically-acclaimed, self-titled debut album was released on MetalAges Records in October of 2003. The album was completely created by founding member Matt Smith, and was hailed by fans and critics alike as a Power Metal tour-de-force of the highest quality. The music is heavy, epic and powerful, and the band is very proud of this disc.
Since the album's release, Theocracy has gained three new members: drummer Shawn Benson, bassist Josh Sloan, and guitarist Jon Hinds. The full lineup has been playing shows around the Atlanta area to rave reviews with more shows already booked and upcoming. At the moment, the band is in the studio, continuing to work on their much-anticipated next release. Initial reports have been excellent, and their sophomore effort promises to meet the same high standard as the first album.
We now have logo shirts for sale! View photos and order directly from the site.
Matt has remixed and reworked the Theocracy Christmas Medley with real drums and better production. Enjoy!
